چکیده

Studies have shown that CD1 double negative mice (CD1d) develop larger liver abscesses due to their inability to present amebic antigens to NK T lymphocytes. Therefore, we conducted flow cytometry studies to determine the frequency of NK T, CD4 T, CD8 T and B lymphocytes in mice with amebic colitis. The frequency of NK T, CD8 T and B lymphocytes was reduced in the MLN of mice in the CTRL-CD1 and Eh-CD1 groups compared to the CTRL-WT and Eh-WT groups. There was also a significant decrease in the frequency of B lymphocytes in the spleens of the animals in the Eh-WT group when compared with the CTRL-CD1, EhCD1 and CTRL-WT groups. The results of the flow cytometry analysis highlight the importance of NK T lymphocytes in the immune response of mice to amebic intestinal infection and the importance of CD1 molecules in the activation of T and B lymphocytes.

Susceptibility to Entamoeba histolytica intestinal infection is related to reduction in natural killer T-lymphocytes in C57BL/6 mice

Entamoeba histolytica is a protozoan that causes amoebiasis. Recent studies demonstrated that natural killer T lymphocytes (NKT) are critical for preventing the development of amoebic liver abscess. In spite of that, there are only a handful of studies in the area. Herein, we explored the role of NKT cells in E. histolytica infection using C57BL/6 wild-type and CD1(-/-) mice. Animals were inocu...

Natural Killer T Cells Activated by a Lipopeptidophosphoglycan from Entamoeba histolytica Are Critically Important To Control Amebic Liver Abscess

The innate immune response is supposed to play an essential role in the control of amebic liver abscess (ALA), a severe form of invasive amoebiasis due to infection with the protozoan parasite Entamoeba histolytica. In a mouse model for the disease, we previously demonstrated that Jalpha18(-/-) mice, lacking invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells, suffer from more severe abscess development. H...

Absence of the CD1 molecule up-regulates antitumor activity induced by CpG oligodeoxynucleotides in mice.

The role of NKT cells on antitumor activity of CpG oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) was evaluated by peritumoral injections of CpG-ODNs in s.c. melanoma-bearing mice of strains differing in the number of NKT cells (athymic nude mice, recombination-activating gene(-/-)/transgenic V(alpha)14/Vbeta8.2 mice that generate NKT cells; J(alpha)281(-/-) mice and CD1(-/-) mice, which both have a strongly red...

Comparison of Routine Method with Antibody and Antigen Ones for Diagnosing Giardia-Entamoeba Histolytica in Stool and Blood

Abstract Background and Objectives: Giardia lamblia and Entamoeba histolytica are the most prevalent human intestinal pathogenic protozoa, worldwide. The clinical features of Giardia infection are acute diarrhea, a chronic condition with continuous diarrhea and malabsorption. Entamoeba histolytica invade intestinal tract without any typical clinical indications, and it can involve liver and oth...

The cultivation of entamoeba histolytica in HSr+ s medium

In 1926 for the first time Dobell and laid low synthesized and used Hsre+ s ( horse serum, ringer, egg+ starch rice) as a culture medium for growth of E.histolytica. since then this medium along with tens of other media have been used for growth of E.histolytica and other intestinal microorganisms. This medium has been used worldwide in many diagnostic and research laboratories. In Iran, in ...
